Broccoli Sprout Pizza

by Olivia Wong

Pizza is fun to make because you can mix and match ingredients to your liking. For example, if you're not a fan of pesto (wait until you try this recipe,) you can use tomato sauce instead. Add other veggies to your liking, just be sure to add the sprouts after it's cooked for maximum nutritional value as heat and sprouts aren't a good match.

This is a double whammy broccoli sprout pizza! Broccoli sprouts are in the pesto sauce and also on the pizza.

Another fun fact is that you don't necessarily have to use pizza crust. We cheated here and used a chalupa. You can also use naan, flatbread or focaccia bread.

This is a quick and easy recipe that kids of all ages will enjoy making.

Ingredients:

pizza crust

Handful of grape tomatoes cut in half

Fresh basil

Fresh mozzarella thinly sliced

Broccoli sprout pesto (recipe below)

Handful of broccoli sprouts

Broccoli Sprout Pesto Ingredients:

¼ cup olive oil

1 cup fresh basil

2 garlic cloves

¼ cup broccoli sprouts

Dash of salt

Pesto Directions:

Add ingredients to a food processor and chop until smooth.

Pizza Directions:

1.      Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit

2.      Spread a layer of pesto on the pizza crust.

3.      Add tomatoes evenly spaced out.

4.      Add mozzarella.

5.      Add basil. You can put whole leaves or chop them.

6.      Bake for approximately 10 minutes until crust is lightly browned and cheese has melted. Some cheese may not melt completely.
